These Bible verses about being forgiven and beginning to live our Christian life reveal how God chose, predestined and elected us to be adopted into the family of God from before the beginning of time.

A wonderful truth in these Bible verses about predestination and adoption is that we have been chosen by God to be a part of His family. Our Father has displayed His infinite love for us by providing a way that we can be forgiven and saved from our sins and the separation from Him that these cause.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ paved the way for a universal salvation—an offer of salvation that is available to everyone. But this salvation is conditional on the fact that we must first ask for His forgiveness and accept His offer of being saved.

Our Father in His foreknowledge knows exactly how each of us will respond to this offer of salvation and actively chooses those who accepts His offer and elects them to salvation. What a great expression of God’s love for us it is that, even though He knows all our faults and all the things we have and will ever do wrong, He personally chose us to be a part of His family.

The offer of God’s forgiveness shines graciously on us from above for all to accept.

By accepting the salvation made possible by the sacrifice of God’s only Son, the Holy Spirit comes into our lives and we become a part of God’s family. We begin a new, abundant, Christian life with God Himself as our Father and enter into the only relationship that truly satisfies.

As part of this loving family we have the source of power we need to do what God wants us to do—to love others and tell them about the forgiveness available through Jesus.

The Bible tells us that when we become Christians, we have the Spirit of Christ within us and we ourselves are ‘in Christ’. This union with Christ is a complete, spiritual union that can never be dissolved. Our Father chose us in Christ before He even created the universe and we are joined with His Son for all eternity.

The following letter is based on the ninth chapter of the Christian book Letters from Home, Our Father’s Message of Love. This chapter is called, I chose you to be in my family, united with my Son and is composed of paraphrased Bible quotes about being chosen by God, having our sins forgiven and being adopted into God’s family.

As you read these Bible verses about forgiveness, predestination and adoption, consider how wonderful it is that the Almighty Creator and Redeemer of the universe loves us so much that not only has He chosen us to become His sons and daughters and enter His family, but also that, as we are children of God, the only begotten Son of God Himself, Jesus, has accepted us as His very own brothers and sisters.

Bible verses about

Do not be concerned that the rest of the world does not welcome the Gift of my Spirit. They do not accept him, because they cannot see or know him; but you know him, my child, for he lives in you and is with you. You are not an orphan, because the Spirit of my Son, the Counsellor, is with you.[1]

Though your failures had separated you from me, I have now forgiven you through Jesus;[2] you could not see me because of your sins,[3] but, my child, you were appointed for everlasting life.[4] Like a sheep you were going astray,[5] but the good shepherd laid down his life for you[6] and I brought him back from the dead—he is the great Shepherd[7] of our one flock.[8]

Put your hope in the Saviour of all mankind, the Living God.[9] By the faith I have given you,[10] by this gift you are saved.[11]

I have chosen you.[12] I knew how you would respond to me and so I planned for you to be changed, to have my Son’s likeness.[13] I chose you to be my child[14] and you turned to me, just as I had decided beforehand;[15] from before the beginning of time I chose you to be without blame before me.[16]

I work all things to happen for the good of my children,[17] and I have chosen you as my own.[18] This is my secret wisdom, the hidden wisdom I planned for your glory.[19] For I have called you and you are justified in my sight.[20]

From far away, you have been brought near;[21] by my grace I enabled you to come to me.[22] Those I have given to my Son are mine,[23] for I chose you in him.[24]

I know everything you will ever do,[25] and I chose you to be my child from the beginning of time.[26] My Son has chosen you to work and bear fruit, so I will give you whatever you ask for in his name.[27]

It was my great pleasure to plan your adoption as my sons and daughters.[28] I love you, for you love my Son and know that he is from me.[29] I lavish my love on you. I call you, my child,[30] and called you to be in my family.[31] You are in the same family as my Son—Jesus himself is not ashamed to call you his brothers and sisters![32]

My children are everything to my Son—they are mother, brother and sister to him,[33] they hear his word and apply it in their lives.[34]

And as you are my child, so you are also an heir;[35] you have full rights as my child.[36]

All this is from me, for we are reconciled through Christ.[37] I did not give you a spirit that makes you a slave to fear, but instead I gave you the Spirit of adoption—by him you call out in truth to your Father.[38]

My daughters, your faith has made you whole;[39] my sons, follow me all your life,[40] for, by the Holy Spirit you can cry out to me—your true dad and your one Father.[41]

My Holy Spirit works through your will to enable you to turn to me so that my desires become yours.[42] Examine yourself, my child: do you know my Son within yourself?[43] He is in you, vitalizing your spirit through righteousness.[44]

You live in him, and he in you, for he has given you his very Spirit.[45] My Son is within you as you are in him, and through Christ you are all within me.[46] Everyone led by my Spirit is my child.[47] Stay in me and I will stay in you.[48]

You have been crucified with Christ;[49] your old self, with its body of sin, was killed[50] and it is no long you who live, but it is my Son within you.[51] Through union with Christ in his death, be assured, you will also be united with him in his resurrection.[52]

This hope is my most glorious mystery: we have made our home with you.[53] I have given you these precious promises, for you to participate in my own divine nature and so escape the corruption of this world.[54] By my Spirit you know that you live in my Son, for I have given you his Spirit.[55] You have united yourself in the Lord and you are spiritually one with him.[56]

If you live in love, my child, you will live in me, and I in you, for I am Love.[57]

My Son gives eternal life to those I have given him[58] and reveals me to you.[59] Take my free gift of the water of life![60] This water will well up within you into a spring[61] that benefits you with holiness and leads to life everlasting.[62]

I have given you to my Son. Be assured, he will never drive you away.[63] But if you choose not to stay in him, you will be like a pruned branch that is thrown away—for apart from him you can achieve nothing.[64]

My Son is the vine, you are the branches[65], and I am the gardener.[66] You will bear much fruit if you stay in my Son, for he will remain in you.[67] But every branch that does not bear fruit will be removed.[68]

I am your faithful God, your rock,[69] there is none like me in all the world[70] And you are secure in my hand.[71] My child, do you know that if you believe in my Son you will never die?[72] Wait eagerly for your complete adoption into my family; then your bodies will be redeemed, made new and free.[73]

All creation must hear the good news.[74] The work I call you to do is to trust and believe in the one I have sent.[75] Tell it everywhere—to the very ends of the earth[76]—tell everyone I will be their Father and they can be my sons and daughters.[77]

Share in the glory of my Son, share in the good news.[78]

My child, walk as Jesus did:[79] walk in the Spirit as is fitting for my children.[80] Believe in my Son and love each other, just as he commanded[81]—there is work prepared for you to do.[82]

Just as you bear the likeness of all men on earth, so too will you carry the likeness of my Son from heaven.[83] With my Son’s Spirit in your heart,[84] people will see the good work you do and, through you, praise me.[85]
