Through the world around us and the very nature of the universe we can see that there is a God; the Bible tells us that this is plainly evident to everyone who looks and considers it honestly (Romans 1:19; Psalm 19:1). But the revelation of the divine through nature alone (the study of which is called natural theology) is extremely limited and cannot tell us who God is.

For this very reason, our loving and caring Creator, who both desires to be known and to have a relationship with each one of us has communicated to us in another way. God has published two volumes to help us understand who God is and what God is like: the book of nature and the book of His word, the Holy Bible. It is through this special revelation in the Bible that we can find the answers to the most important question of Who is God?

Charles Spurgeon’s Sermon Online

Our Father God has revealed to us, His children and special creations, that, not only was the universe created by something, but that this is actually a someone. These Bible verses about God reveal that God is not an impersonal being or simply a “force” (as some believe), but He is a Person, someone who is like us, in the sense that He has a personality and knows who He is, what He is doing and what He wants to do. Indeed we can say that God is a person like us, because God in fact created us in His image (Genesis 1:27) – that is, God created us to resemble and be like Him.

Bible verses about who God is - God is love

Who is God?
The Bible verses 1 John 4:8 and 1 John 4:16 say that, “God is love.”

Although we can make comparisons and analogies, we cannot, of course, completely understand what God is like because He is beyond our limited understanding. We can, however, certainly know Him and we find many hints and clues as to what God is like, what God wants from us and what He wants us to do with our lives in the Holy Bible.

These Bible verses about God show us that the Biblical revelation is of an all-knowing and all-powerful Being who is personally in love with each one of us as only a Father can be. These Bible quotes reveal that we can get to know God and that He wants us to turn to Him and be His child.

By knowing more about who God is and how much He cares for us, we can build our trust in Him and live more courageously. So, as you read these Bible quotes about who God is and what He is like, open yourself up to the love that He has for us; God has made so many promises to us in the Bible and He will keep each and every one of them.

Because God loves us and longs to be with us, He has done everything He can to enable us to come to Him and, when we do, God will never let us go.

Book of Bible verses logoThere are many Bible Scriptures about God and what God is like and to help us understand them better I have organized a selection and paraphrased them into the first person (God’s own point of view) so that it reads like a letter written for us in our Father’s own words. In this way, we can see easily what the Bible says about God. This letter below is based on the first chapter of the Christian book Letters from Home, Our Father’s Message of Love and is called A little about Me.

Bible verses about

I am your God, apart from me there is no other.[1] I am one God and Father of all creation,[2] I have always been here.[3] Before the mountains were made, before the universe was created, I am always your everlasting God.[4] You can rely on me for I am eternal[5] and I will always remain the same.[6]

I am the King eternal. I am immortal, and invisible[7]—no one has ever seen me,[8] but Jesus, my only-begotten Son,[9] has revealed me throughout history.[10] You can get to know me by knowing him,[11] for he continuously reveals me to my children.[12] As my children, you will one day see my face.[13] Blessed indeed are those of you who are pure in heart, for you will see me.[14] For this reason you should try your very hardest to live peacefully with everyone and to be holy; for without holiness no one will see me.[15].

I am the living God;[16] I have feelings, and I have the power to do whatever pleases me.[17] I am a person with self-consciousness, for I am who I am.[18] I stand alone—there is no one who rivals me,[19] no one can measure my thoughts[20] and no one on earth who completely understands me,[21] for I am incomparable to anyone or anything you may know.[22] But it is my pleasure to explain the mystery of my desires,[23] for I am compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, the One who holds love in all abundance.[24]

Because of my compassion I made sure that my wonders would be remembered throughout history;[25] I inspired books to be written for future ages, for generations not yet created[26] and from the most ancient of times I have made known my purpose and what will happen in the end.[27]

I have a panoramic view of time. Do not forget that, for me, eternity is one everlasting present and a day is like a thousand years;[28] for me, a thousand years are like a day that has just passed.[29] Therefore, do not worry.[30] My eyes are everywhere, keeping watch over the wicked and the good,[31] and I have seen your tears.[32] I have seen when you are miserable and I have heard your crying; I am concerned about your suffering.[33] My heart has been filled with pain about your condition from the beginning,[34] for I can see you always.[35]

I know what is essential for your daily lives.[36] Therefore, do not be overly concerned for tomorrow, for each day has its own share of difficulties.[37] Simply look for me and my rule on earth and your daily needs will be provided for.[38]

I do not live in any one particular place for I am Spirit—where I am, there is freedom.[39] The whole universe cannot contain me;[40] I fill both heaven and earth and[41] this is why I can be your perfect refuge and strength, for I am always present to help you.[42] If you truly call out to me, you will see that I am near you.[43] Indeed, each time you pray, I am closer to you than you can imagine.[44]

Nothing in all creation is hidden from my sight.[45] I know you better than you know yourself, [46] for I created the hearts of every person and I consider everything you do.[47] I see all your ways and I examine every path you choose to take.[48]

Both my Son—the Christ—and our Holy Spirit have been with me from all eternity and they too are God.[49] We know each other intimately and perfectly; indeed, you cannot come to know me unless my Son reveals me to you. No one completely knows the Son except his Father,[50] and my Holy Spirit knows the deepest parts of me.[51] I too know the mind of the Spirit, for the Spirit tells me everything, even the needs and desires of all my children.[52]

I reveal myself to you by my Spirit, He searches everything—from the universe to my own deepest thoughts.[53] This is how it should be, for who else knows your thoughts except your own self, your own spirit within you?[54]

Be strengthened for I am all-powerful, able to do anything I desire;[55] no plan of mine can be thwarted.[56] For me, all things are possible.[57] Remember, it is I who made the entire universe, there is nothing too difficult for me to do.[58] But some things are contrary to my nature: my eyes are too pure to gaze on evil and I cannot tolerate wrongdoing;[59] I cannot deny myself either, so I will always be faithful to you;[60] I do not tempt anyone with evil and I, myself, cannot be tempted by evil;[61] also, I cannot lie, so you can be sure that my promises to you are true from before the beginning of time.[62]

You can therefore put your trust in me, because it is impossible for me to lie.[63] You can trust in me forever,[64] trust in me with all your heart—and do not rely on your own understanding, but acknowledge me in everything you do, and I will guide you throughout your life.[65]

You were made in my image,[66] and I have sustained you since your birth.[67] You exist, live and move within me[68] and even to your old age, when your hair has become grey, I will still be the One who sustains you; I have made you and I will always carry you, and rescue you.[69] Therefore, do not worry but entrust your cares to me—I will support you.[70] I care for you deeply; leave all your troubles with me.[71]

You can be sure that I will not change; I, your Father, do not change.[72] My love has always been with my children, from everlasting to everlasting.[73] My character remains the same and my years will never end.[74] Although the heavens will be changed like a piece of clothing, like a robe I shall one day roll them up, I will forever remain the same true God.[75]

Be therefore strengthened in your faith; I have the power to fulfil all my promises to you.[76] No matter how many promises I have made throughout history and before, I want you to see that they are all ‘Yes’ in my Son Jesus.[77] I have kept my promises because I am righteous;[78] righteousness and justice are my throne’s foundations, love and faithfulness is present wherever I am.[79]

I am good,[80] I am just,[81] I am light.[82] Look to me and I will give you your daily needs,[83] for the desires of every living creature are satisfied from my hand.[84]

I long for you.[85] Discover what pleases me and live as a child of light.[86] Turn to me and be saved.[87] If you love my Son Jesus, we will come and make our home with you.[88] Because you will be my child, I will send the very Spirit of my Son into your heart[89] and, even if you have times of faithlessness, I will remain faithful for I cannot disown myself.[90] I will forever be a Father to you and you will be my child,[91] no one has the power to snatch you away from me.[92]

Bible verses about God - Triquetra, Holy Trinity symbol

Through our belief in the sacrifice of God’s only Son, Jesus, God the Father gives us His Holy Spirit to live with us, to teach, guide and empower us. This blessing of the Holy Trinity, transforms our life and we are born again, entering into the family of God as a new creation.
The picture above is called the Triquetra and is a traditional Christian Trinitarian symbol. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is represented by the undivided and equal nature of the three-pointed symbol woven around a circle, which represents eternity.
